Airport Rates : International departure airport tax is U$S 18.- or ch.$ 7.800.-. For domestic flights tax is U$S 8.- or ch.$ 3.500.- Taxis: Taxi fares are paid in accordance with the taximeter. There is no extra charge for time difference (day or night), and tips are not customary. A normal ride from the airport is approximately ch.$ 8.500.- or U$S 20.-. You can also use "transfers" for an approximate fare of Ch.$2.000.- or U$S 6.-. To obtain taxi-service you only have to ask at the hotels front desk. Transportation: Bus fares in Chile vary from ch.$ 160.- to ch$ 180.-, according to the different bus lines, and there are only oneway tickets. Buses are distinguished by their yellow and white colors, and a number which identifies their runs You pay your ticket to the bus driver upon mounting the bus, when you step in. The Metro (subway), goes from Monday to Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 pm., and on Sundays from 8 am. to 10:30 pm. Tickets vary from ch$ 120.- to 220.- according to timetable. Their exists however an intelligent ticket which has a 2.000 ch. peso value and allows for various trips; its value is being deducted every time you use in in the turnstiles. Driving in Chile : Car rental is only allowed to people over 21 years of age, with a credit card, drivers license and identification card. You drive on the right hand side of the road, and speed limit on highways is 100 Km/pHr. |

Shops: Downtown Santiago shops open between 10:00 am. and 8:00 pm. from Monday through Fridays. Saturdays shops open during mornings only until 2:00 pm. Their are galleries in the area, (Imperio, San Agustin, España), as well as business centers (Eurocentro, Santiago Centro). - In all other sections of the city business works from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00 Hrs. Shopping malls are open all day including weekends, usually from 10 am. to 9 pm. Restaurant tipping is usually approximately 10% of consumption and is voluntary. MUSEUMS: PreColombian Art Museum (7): Inaugurated in l981, of international level, holds a 2000- piece collection of precolombian ceramics, textiles, paintings and sculptures - showing the evolution of the american man. Colonial Museum: Located at one side of the San Francisco Church, holds an interesting collection of colonial religious art, including the best Cuzco-type paintings of the continent. National History Museum (10): It has a collection holding almost12 thousand pieces which explain Chiles history from precolombian times to the XX century, throughout the 16 rooms of the Palace. National Fine Arts Museum (11): Of clasical french style, inaugurated in l910, -this museum counts with approximately 5 thousand works of art between paintings, sculptures, engravings, and artists drawings, from the colonial times up to the beginning of the XX century. There also is a rich collection of chilean painting. CHURCHES: Cathedral (5): Of neoclasical origin, it was built between 1748 and l775. Three previous constructions were destroyed by a fire and earthquake. Through a side door you can go to a museum, where religious imagery is exhibited as well as manuscripts and works belonging to the XVI, XVII and XVIII centuries. San Francisco Church (9): Built between 1586 and l528, has resisted successive earthquakes. You can find in its interior a religious image which arrived in Chile with Pedro de Valdivia. Right beside it is the convent, where you can find an interesting Colonial Museum. OTHERS: Santa Lucia Hill (12): Transformation of this started in l872, a wild steep hill, in a big and beautiful public park. From Caupolican Plaza - a theater and concert center during summer months - there is a lovely view towards town and the west part of the city. Main Square (4): Diagrammed in l541 when the city was founded, it is surrounded by bushy trees and is the center of conversation and afternoon walks. You find fotographers with oldfashioned box-type machines, street vendors, shoeshine boys, painters and artisans. Moneda Palace (5): Built in 1799 for the royal Mint House, as a place where the circulating money was printed. Of neoclassical style, it is the work of italian architect Joaquin Toesca. By the middle of the XIX century it was transformed into the Government House and Palace and headquarters for the Presidence of the Republic.
